She was able to pay her own way through college with various scholarships including $50,000 from the Miss America Organization. A Pacific Islander (Guamanian American), Amanda grew up in a single parent home with her mother, who was active duty in the Air Force. At the age of 8 Amanda welcomed to her life a step father. However, she did not meet her biological father until she was 18. Moving around and dealing with her mother and step-father being deployed in various places helped to make Amanda more aware of what children need in life. Amanda is a national spokesperson and six year volunteer for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization. Additionally, she works with H.E.R.O. for children, the largest organization for children affected by HIV/AIDS in Georgia. When she is not busy with her philanthropy she also has a real job as a Part-time Organizer for the Georgia Association of Educators as well as represented by the People Store. In her free time Amanda is an avid reader and movie watcher. She also loves to spend time with her family, friends, and her Shih Tzu, Percy.

See also: http://www.robins.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123039171

receiver ordered for DPW Solid Waste

Receiver_order.pdf

Congresswoman Bordallo goes it alone

Interesting story in THE HILL about Madeliene's one-woman show in DC.

MZB_The_Hill_story.pdf

A fairly rare spreadsheet for keeping track of your Power use

I went nuts a few nights ago trying to find a spreadsheet tool for watching my Kilowatt hours. Photos attached re my solar water heater installation: exterior and interior views. As noted earlier, we converted to100% fluorescent lighting some time ago. We use air conditioning sparingly: normally for sleeping only, and periodically in other areas overnight to dehumidify.
I recently reduced the inside temp drastically (by probably at least 10 degrees) by cleaning the roof. The white coating is in very good condition, so I anticipate little additional benefit when I soon apply another coat of paint. My power bill is now under $200, and we don't skimp on lighting, electrics and electronics (three computers, three printers, three refrigerators, two freezers, etc.) and other energy users. I seldom use the range oven, relying on 2 microwave ovens and a toaster oven. I also have dusk-to-dawn security lighting (fluorescent) front and rear. As for coconut husks on the roof: it doesn't seem like a viable solution to me. There'd have to be some means of securing whatever goes up there or your house becomes a residential missile launcher in a storm. There are certainly other, more rational ways of insulating a roof at reasonable expense.
